THE 10 ESSENTIALS

Tommy Ton, photographer
1. Byredo Blanche Parfum
I like clean and refreshing scents and what I love about this scent is that
it reminds me of the smell of linen spray and fresh laundry.
Who doesn't want to smell like clean bedsheets?

2. iPod
I can't leave the house without it.  It's just a great way to drown out all
the noise around you and it's a great source of energy.

3. Anything from the Fall 2010 Dries Van Noten collection
I don't usually buy so much from one designer and particularly from one collection
but this was a stellar collection.  Everything from the patch knee military pants to
the contrasting sleeve shirts, it's a wardrobe worth investing in. I found the perfect
chino from this collection.  They are the perfect chino with a tapered trench buckle leg and
trench belt waist.  They fit so well I kind of went nuts and bought three pairs in different colors.
I feel that when something fits as well it does, buy in bulk.

4. Ice Breaker Sours
I have a bit of a sweet tooth, so it's great to carry these sour flavored mints around.
They instantly freshen your breath and have a nice tangy sour flavor.  The smell is quite
inviting and they're a nice conversation starter.  An essential at all times, especially
during fashion month!

5. Nikon D5000 Camera
Without it I'm nothing.  It's easy to use and gives me the flexibility I need in a SLR camera.
6. A rucksack
I always tend to carry more than I need, especially when I'm working during fashion month.
It's great having a rucksack on hand so at least you're always prepared with everything you
need: snacks, batteries, invites etc.  I find myself changing my signature rucksack every few months.
I just changed to a new Prada camouflage one. It's adorable.

7. My magazine collection/archive
I'm quite a hardcore magazine collector.  Magazines are to me are what comic books are to nerds.
They've always been a go to source for inspiration for me and I just love being surrounded by piles
and piles of mags. I've become more particular in the past few years about which ones I purchase and collect.
I'd be heartbroken if anything happened to my magazine archive.  I'm two-thirds of the way from finally
having the entire Self Service series.

8. Donut Plant
I only just recently discovered this gourmet donut joint on Grand Street in New York but these
are the best donuts I've ever had. They're beyond anything you've ever
tasted, especially the peanut butter and jelly and the creme brulée.

9. Parrot Cay Resort
I just went for the first time just before fashion month and I'm counting the days when
I can go back.  Sometimes it's just nice to get away from fashion and the city and this
resort is truly the ultimate getaway. It's completely isolated from tourists
and overly crowded beaches.

10. My friends and family and dog in Toronto
After being away for long periods, I just love coming home to my family and friends.
I miss them more and more when I'm working abroad so often.  They really do keep me grounded and
I just love doing simple things like having dinner parties and going to the movies and playing karaoke.
It's just nice to know I can go home and not feel I'm living fashion all the time.
